YOUNG and old tested their skills in a range of activities at a free family fun day in Minehead last Saturday.
The West Somerset Sport and Leisure Centre in the town threw open its doors for the special event and almost 200 people took advantage of the opportunity to try anything from Nordic walking to orienteering.
The aim was to throw down the gauntlet to families who may have thought fitness was not for them.
Centre manager Jayne Lethaby said the open day had attracted people of all ages: "It went really well and all the activities on offer were fully booked."
Adults dipped into a range of taster sessions from pilates to aerobics, and joined in a 'dads and lads' football match, as well as taking on the challenge of the climbing wall.
Other attractions included cheerleading, street dance and karate.
"There was something for everyone - and even the sun shone for the event," said Ms Lethaby.
"In addition to the activities, the day also marked the launch of a new gymnastics proficiency centre - one of the first of its type being set up in leisure centres across Somerset, thanks to £3,000 funding from Somerset Leisure - a non-profit-making trust - and a £8,300 grant from Sport England.
The funding has provided equipment ranging from junior spring boards to high bars and landing mats, as well as helping to create a safe and challenging environment to progress in the sport.
Children will also be able to follow a specially structured programme recognised by British Gymnastics.
