A 55-year-old jukebox complete with original Beatles and other 1960s records could be restored to provide entertainment for villagers in Wootton Courtenay.

The 1970 Rock-Ola upright jukebox has been offered by horse trainer and sports photographer Bella Capel for sale or for ‘fixing up’.

Mrs Capel was given the jukebox in 1997 as a 30th birthday present by her husband Marcus, who is Minehead Choral Society’s musical director, but it has lain unused in the couple’s garage for the past decade.

She said: “I had always wanted a jukebox and although it is not like a Wurlitzer it is just the sound like we all knew in the pub.

“It came with classic 1960s music, including ‘She Loves You’ by The Beatles and songs by The Hollies, but that is not my sort of thing so we did replace those.

“I loved it, but then it was replaced by a dresser so my husband moved it into the shed.

“I tried to plug it in the other day and it would not work.”

Now, Mrs Capel has appealed for somebody who can give the jukebox some ‘TLC’, tender loving care, or who may want to buy it, or who knows of somebody who might.

Mrs Capel said: “It could be a cool addition to the pub.

“I would happily loan it out if somebody got it going.”

The jukebox comes with about 100 vinyl records covering the period up to the early 1980s, all with their centres punched out.

The community’s closest thing to a pub these days is the Skye’s Bar, at the rear of the Wootton Courtenay Villager’s Stores and Post Office, where residents can go for a drink and to socialise on Friday evenings.

Vintage jukeboxes are highly collectable, with prices which can reach into the thousands of pounds.
