Exmoor Tea, which launched a new range of sustainable and ethical teas last year, has received gold and silver awards from Taste of the West 2021.

Co-founders Rachel and Kenny McDonald have always believed great taste should come with strong ethical and environmental credentials.

But while running an award-winning pub on Exmoor they could not find a superb-tasting tea that reflected their values: “We tracked down a great local organic hand-roasted Fairtrade coffee which tasted amazing but we couldn’t find a tea to equal that,” said Rachel.

“We found many ‘cool’ teas but often they were sub-brands of larger organisations and didn’t have the authenticity and integrity we were after.”

So, the couple went on a mission to discover the finest ethical, sustainably grown ingredients and blended them in small batches: “We always thought our Gorgeous Grey was ‘gorgeous’ and now its official,” said Rachel.

“Exmoor Tea isn’t just about the quality of the ingredients and creating that perfect cuppa. We are also determined to make a difference both locally and globally.”

In recognition of the couple’s appreciation for their Exmoor home, they have pledged to help keep Exmoor beautiful by giving 5p from the sale of each retail pack to CareMoor.

Each tea is sold in cubes designed to reflect the shifting colours of the Exmoor landscape. Display jars are also available for bars, restaurant, cafes and hotels.

Each pack costs £3.99 – for 12 or 15 pyramids according to blend. For more information see www.exmoortea.co.uk, email hello@
