The Rest and Be Thankful pub on Exmoor is up for sale for offers of in excess of £1 million.
The 200-year-old pub at Wheddon Cross, originally a staging post for travellers on their way between Bampton and Minehead, has gone on the open market for the first time in 15 years.
Its owners are retiring after building a thriving pub with eight en-suite bedrooms, a skittle alley which can also be used as a function room for 70, a traditional bar with dining areas, lower meeting room area and rear terrace.
The 19th Century coaching house also boasts solar and photovoltaic panels and electric charging points in the car park.
Property agents Vickery Holman are expecting high levels of interest from all over the UK.
‘’As we enter step two of re-opening hospitality businesses, we are seeing many more enquiries from applicants keen to relocate to the South-West and from existing operators who have strong forward bookings to satisfy,” said Michael Easton, head of the hotels and hospitality department at Vickery Holman.
He added: “Having sold the venue to the current owners in 2006, I have seen first-hand the comprehensive improvements and additions they have made to both the business and to the building.
“Suffice to say they have left no stone unturned.”
Michael said the new owners, who would have a two-bedroom apartment with kitchen and private entrance, can expect ‘significant goodwill’ from existing customers.
