A NEWLY established West Somerset visitor business scored a triple gold success in this year’s regional tourism awards.
Flora and Fauna, in Skilgate, on Exmoor, was among four West Somerset businesses to win honours in the 2025 awards.
Daniel and Rachel Barber bought Little Haddon Farm in a rundown and neglected state but instantly sensed it was special and the perfect place to create their lifelong home.
They developed the main farmstead and then decided to open up the farm to visitors and created their small, inclusive, high-end glamping site.
The business deliberately has just two luxury lodges, named ‘Flora’ and ‘Fauna’, to ensure a ‘peaceful and private’ stay.
The initiative won the couple gold awards in the new tourism business of the year, glamping business, and regenerative tourism categories.
The couple said on social media: “What an incredible honour to be recognised alongside so many outstanding businesses that contribute to the vibrant tapestry of the South West.
“Exmoor is truly a magical destination, offering breathtaking diversity and beauty.
“We are proud to showcase the wonderful experiences Exmoor has to offer.
“Our heartfelt thanks go out to Kellie Mewett, Somerset Tourism Awards, and our fantastic sponsors, Visit West and Anytime Booking.
“Your support has made this journey even more special.”
Another gold award this year went to Tyrone and Neil Mundell-Phipps, who run Myrtle Cottage, a 400-year-old thatched cottage in Porlock, which won in the bed and breakfast and guesthouse of the year category.
Allerford Tea Room and Gardens won a bronze award in the cafe and tearoom of the year category, as did the West Somerset Railway Association for its annual steam rally in Norton Fitzwarren in the category for tourism event/festival of the year.
Awards director Nell Barrington said: “Our winners were outstanding and really show what makes this region so special.”
