A GROUP aiming to provide low-cost homes in the area is running events in the autumn which will explore traditional and innovative ways of refurbishing and building them.
West Somerset Community Land Trust members will be learning about and debating how to provide homes which are low-cost to build, run and maintain.
On Wednesday (September 26) they will be visiting the National Self Build and Renovation Centre in Swindon, a permanent exhibition site providing technical advice and skills training.
Trust chairman Maureen Smith said: “The centre provides two tours and we have booked a renovation tour just for our members to attend, with plans to take part in the new build tour, which is open to the public, at a later date.”
On October 4, a members’ meeting will be held on the subject of “Providing Low Cost Housing: Traditional or Innovative?” at 7pm in the Quaker Meeting Hall in Bancks Street, Minehead.
There will be debate on how the trust should provide low-cost homes and speakers will include experts and self-builders.
People who would like to become trust members can join on the night, or by downloading a form from www.wsclt.com or calling Hester Watson on 01643 821768. Membership costs £1.
