BUDDING artists are being asked to think big when Williton stages its second street art competition in May.

Giant canvases will be put up on Bellamy's Corner in the village and people are being asked to let their creative spirits flow.

The theme of the 2012 event, which will take place on May 11, 12 and 13, is Williton past, present and future.

And although most boards are booked, Williton Parish Council, which is organising the competition, is still looking for teams or individuals to take part.

The street art challenge was launched for the first time in 2010 to coincide with the West Somerset Railway's autumn steam gala.

It was planned to take place again last year but had to be cancelled due to lack of support.

Cllr Angela Wood, who is heading up the 2012 competition, said the inaugural event had been colourful and unique and given many local people a lot of pleasure.

Former parish councillor David Chadwick, who came up with the original idea, is helping to publicise this year's competition with a display of street art from across European cities in the parish office in Killick Way.

The art, printed from photographs he took while visiting Bristol, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Copenhagen and London, is aimed at showing people the quality of work being achieved by street artists.

Cllr Wood said: "Hopefully, it will also provide some ideas for budding street artists who would like to take part in the competition."

Anyone wanting to take part should contact Cllr Wood on 01984 639050 or the parish office on 01984 633979.
