IT was windy and the canvas sides on the tea tent noisily flew about, but Bicknoller Flower Show attracted nearly 200 people.
There was a spectacular display of flowers and floral art in the Village Hall, and the benches inn the marquee were at full capacity.
Entries were submitted by 239 schoolchildren, 59 adults and four WIs, making a total of 773 items which was up on last year.
Among the trophy winners was Lucy Croxton – who won a record-breaking 14!
The judges found the standard of exhibits as high as usual, despite the growing difficulties caused by the drought.
The WI Challenge Shield was again very competitive with Watchet WI winning by 0.5 of a point.
The Fun Dog Show was very popular, and the winners were: Sausage Catching, Diane with Darcy, Katrina with Tala, and Ed with Stanton; Find the Treat, Katrina with Tala, Ed with Stanton and Scott with Whisky; Temptation Alley were Ed with Stanton, Scott with Widget and Katrina with Tala.
The winners of the potato challenge were Mike and Chris Skinner with a weight of 1.5 kg.
Music was provided by Squeezum, and local schoolchildren created a marquee background comprising 122 butterflies and 58 castles. There was also a ‘whale’ on display, made from rubbish collected on a local beach, and an informative stand.
