Amanda Taylor, musical director of Voices Of Exmoor broke the news that they have been selected to produce their own song on BBC Radio 3 through a national singing competition.

Making Music is the UK’s membership organisation for leisure-time music and each year it runs a project called Adopt a Music Creator in conjunction with Sound and Music, the national organisation for new music, and funded by the PRS Foundation and Philip and Dorothy Green Trust.

The year long project combines the choir with an emerging music creator to create an original piece which will then be broadcasted on BBC Radio 3.

This opportunity is a huge achievement, only six groups are chosen in the UK.

On 7th March, the group met their creator, Hannah Fredsgaard-Jones, a singer, composer and audio producer, and their mentor Lynne Plowman, also a composer. Both Hannah and Lynne were very impressed with Voices of Exmoor.

On Saturday 9th April, tensions were high as the choir group arrived to take part in a creative workshop. However, the group soon loosened up and enjoyed a very entertaining day. The workshop included singing, movement, and a lot of brain work.

When the choir reunited with Hannah and Lynne, the group worked on different melodies, adding to the creative process, and drafted up their final piece. Their world premiere of their song will take place in The Music Room at Woolhanger Estate, Exmoor on Saturday 17th September 2022.

Amanda Taylor added: “After coming together to sing for the first time in more or less 2 years I was so pleased to be able to tell the choir of our great fortune in being selected to be part of Adopt A Music Creator 2022. The project is giving us a new challenge at a pivotal moment in our choir life; it is an amazing new goal and such an exciting prospect for our rural community. It is a true collaboration with our Music Creator, and I am delighted to be leading the wonderful ladies and gentlemen of the choir on our Musical Journey this year.”
