SIR — Why, why, why have Williton residents to come to Watchet Memorial Ground to exercise their dogs? (Your Letters August 7).
We were incensed on reading this as we had previously heard that this was a common practice but could not believe it.
Now we see the concrete evidence in black and white.
There are so many walks around their village, more so than Watchet, so why not use these?
It would be an ideal solution to fine dog handlers who do not pick up their dog poo, but as there is only one dog warden for West Somerset what chance have we got of him being at Watchet Memorial Ground, especially first thing in the morning?
What a sure source of revenue this would be for the council, as we are sure one in three people would be issued with a fine!
We are staunch Watchet Town football supporters and are embarrassed when so many matches are stopped by the referee, and our manager (whose job description does not include clearing up dog poo!) having to go and clean up the offensive mess.
It is the dog owners who want educating and then there would be no need to enforce any existing laws.
So come on, let's keep Watchet Memorial Ground dog free for the use of Watchet residents, young and old.
Joyce Gibbins and Mo Parsons.
Watchet.
