CUTCOMBE First School decided to celebrate World Book Day a day early – which was lucky because the next day’s snow closed the school.

The choice of date was made to enable Dunkery Pre-School to take part, with everyone dressed as a character from a book.

Pre-school staff dressed as a caterpillar at different stages and children took part in activities linked to the book ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’.

School staff dressed as a different colour crayon from the book ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’, by Drew Daywalt, and led a different activity linked to the book. They also wrote alliterative phrases about the colours and pretended to be Duncan from the book, writing replies to the crayons, and in the afternoon, the children drew themselves in character.
