ALL the fun of the fair was in the air at one of West Somerset's premier summer attractions. The annual Dunster Country Fair - now in its 36th year - was staged in glorious sunshine against the backdrop of the village's historic castle on Wednesday. And the event, which started as a simple donkey derby, was packed with entertainment for the crowds of visitors who flooded through the gates. "The weather was perfect - not too hot," said Jenny Thomas, one of the organisers. "Although it's too early to say exactly, it looks as though we had a really good turn-out. "We try to have different attractions every year and we were delighted to be able to get the Portsmouth Area VCC field gun display team for 2014." Other attractions included displays by Hawkeye Falconry UK and Bob Hogg's sheepdogs and ducks, along with the ever popular parade of hounds which this year featured a record 31 packs from across the South West. Music from the Tone Valley Jazz Band, a dog show staged by the Minehead and District Canine Society, trade stands, mounted games, a craft tent and demonstrations of skills from thatching to archery helped the fair celebrate one of its most successful years. "It all went very well and the feedback has been very positive so far," said Mrs Thomas. "Everything points to it having been a really enjoyable day for everyone."
