AN Exmoor village will see six weeks of traffic delays as the second phase of drainage repairs is started next month.

Somerset Council’s highways teams will finish repair work on the B3222 through Exebridge ahead of the oncoming winter.

The team repaired some drains in the area earlier in the year, and the second phase will cover damaged drainage on the stretch of road up to the Riphay Cross junction.

Work is due to start on Monday, September 11, with the road being closed between 9 am and 3 pm on weekdays until Friday, October 20.

Temporary traffic lights will be in use outside the hours of closure.

Emergency vehicles will always be allowed through, while lorries and caravans will have access while the temporary signals are in operation.

There will also be two windows for heavy vehicles and caravans to be escorted through the closure between 11 am and 11.30 am and from 1 pm to 1.30 pm.

School transport will not be affected because the planned hours of closure were agreed in order to cause as little disruption as possible.

Executive Cllr Mike Rigby said: “The second phase of this drainage repair scheme on the B3222 being completed will be of great long-term benefit to the road, and all road users in the area.

“The scheme has been designed to minimise disruption where possible, but we appreciate that there will be some short-term delays so thanks in advance for your patience.”

Access for residents and businesses in the immediate area will be maintained throughout and a diversion will be in place, the full details of which will be available nearer the time on www.somerset.gov.uk/roads-travel-and-parking/roadworks-and-travel.
