WILLITON Community Hospital is the only one in Somerset to be given an "excellent" rating for both its standards of cleanliness and quality of food. The PEAT ratings (Patient Environment Action Team) are published by the Department of Health and compare the standards in every district and community hospital in England. Areas assessed include how clean a hospital is, the quality of food, basic care services, privacy and dignity for patients and ward housekeeping. Williton hospital matron, Ann Henson, said: "I and my staff are very pleased with the recently published PEAT assessment but I would add that everyone within the hospital works hard at all times to sustain the highest standards of care and cleanliness. "I hope patients and their relatives will feel reassured by such a positive rating." Minehead Hospital also did well, with a 'good' rating for cleanliness and an 'excellent' for food. The PEAT ratings show Somerset Coast Primary Care Trust's four community hospitals all performed well within the higher published ratings, with three out of four rated 'excellent' for food. In comparison, Musgrove Park Hospital, in Taunton, was rated 'acceptable' and 'excellent' for cleanliness and food respectively, while Bridgwater General Hospital was 'acceptable' and 'good'. The only hospital in the region to be graded as 'poor' was Wellington Community Hospital for the standard of its cleanliness and general environment.
