SIR — Mr Dan Adams has finally come out and is appealing to dog walkers to respect his right to fence off private land (Free Press March 27).
Well, I was one of those dog walkers and while I don't yet claim any "users" rights, I have to say I've been walking those tumuli pastures on and off for at least 20 years – the only exceptions being on those occasions when livestock was in residence.
Could he not have put up a notice explaining his objectives, rather than bulldozing his intentions with an oversized metal barrier? Why didn't he go the whole hog and just surround it with razor wire?
Of course I don't sanction criminal activity, but I do understand Mr Adams' blatant high-handedness has succeeded in putting several doggy noses out of joint.
And for what purpose? Silage? Surely the problem of faeces can easily be resolved, although I very much doubt grass is a high priority.
