A YOUNG West Somerset man seriously injured in a summer holiday car crash in Portugal has been discharged home from hospital in time for Christmas.
Finn Webber, aged 23, of Combwich, made an ‘amazing recovery’ after family and friends raised more than £56,000 to fly him back for treatment in UK hospitals.
He spent time first in Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, and then Southmead Hospital, Bristol, before going to a rehabilitation ward in the Dene Barton hospital unit, Cotford St Luke.
Now, after 16 weeks, doctors have allowed Finn to go home to finish recuperating.
All six Webber family members were injured when an oil tanker crashed into two cars in which they were travelling with two friends.
Portuguese firefighters had to cut free Finn and his brother Sam unconscious from the wreckage of the crash and he was kept in a coma in hospital in Portugal suffering head injuries and a broken leg and dislocated hip.

His mother Alessia, known as Ali, said in an online message to those who supported the fund-raising appeal: “What a journey this has been, and one that is yet to finish.
“Thank you all for the support and friendship along the way, we could have not achieved so much without you.
“With the money raised, we have made a donation to the SNRC as a small gesture of our appreciation for their amazing service, and we are organising a donation to the hospital, the intensive care unit, and the children’s hospital in Portugal where we were all taken care of.
“Finn's determination and perseverance is paying off, he is now walking with just one crutch or walking stick, and hopefully he will ease back into some of his normal activities in the next few months.
“We are looking forward to an amazing Christmas together and more than ever feel so lucky we got to this point.
“We are going to enjoy the delicious cake our wonderful neighbour made to celebrate Finn’s return home. Our most heartfelt thanks.”
