THE road where a school coach crashed last week, killing a pupil and hospitalising nine other people, is likely to remain closed for several more days.

Accident investigators are expected to remain on site on the A396 Cutcombe Hill until Wednesday (July 23) looking for evidence to help explain how the vehicle came to plunge off the road and slide 20 feet on its roof down a bank.

Highway repair and maintenance works also need to be carried out which are anticipated to be completed by Friday (July 25).

Somerset Council has now put in place an emergency road closure while the works are ongoing and said not even emergency vehicles will be allowed through.

Traffic diversions have been signed on either side of the scene of the tragedy, in Wheddon Cross and Timberscombe, although the council said the diversion route could be subject to change on review.
