SIR — How I sympathise with the residents of Ellicombe Meadow and their struggle to deal with the new development (Free Press October 31). Here in Watchet we are having the same problem, albeit on a smaller scale. The development at Lorna Doone seemed to be complete, but four years on the builders decided to build more houses on a small piece of land next to the original build. The road is extremely narrow but it has to accommodate large lorries and delivery vans. Quite often we are blocked in, causing problems with work, appointments etc. The dirt and dust is a big problem, covering cars, windows, paintwork and gardens. The dirt and mud on the roads is cleaned spasmodically, and the builders' rubbish blows about in the street. To make matters worse, some residents in other areas of Watchet have decided to park their cars in this small cul-de-sac rather than pay for a permit in the designated car park across the road. This just aggravates the problem. I must say, however, that the workmen have been great and try to help as much as they can. But this is going to be going on for several months, and so I suppose we just have to put up with it. All I can say to those in Ellicombe is that it will come to an end some day, hopefully very soon.
