A DUNSTER man who had his head shaved for charity raised over £1,500 at a special event in his local pub.

Derrick Marshall, known as Del, went under the shears on Sunday December 30 and had many years’ growth shaved off, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The event was hosted by the Foresters Arms in the town and a large group of friends and supporters gathered to watch Del’s hair and beard being shaved off, while local musicians played throughout the night.

Del said the event “went way above my expectations” and pub regulars who organised the evening said it was a real community effort that raised over £1,500 on the night.

Even before the big shave evening, Del’s donation page on the Macmillan Brave the Shave website had reached nearly £400. Organisers said more money had been donated since the special shave evening, with further donations still due.

The charity, which supports people living with cancer, said that since 2015, people taking part in its Brave the Shave initiative have raised over £16.8 million.

Del said he had done his fundraising shave in memory of Gladys Marshall.
