WATCHET required a win in their last game of the season at home to struggling Wincanton to win Division 3 but the visitors surprised them by beating them by five wickets.

Batting first, Watchet hoped to pass the 200 mark for the third week in a row but came unstuck against a well organised Wincanton side who bowled and fielded better than their league suggested.

Andrew Woodward again showed great technique and patience in his knock of 57 before he was seventh player out with the score on 117.

The only other Watchet batsmen to reach double figures were Sandy Rawle (15) and Dave Milton (10) before their innings closed on 126 all out.

Watchet made an early breakthrough but then Pete Anyan (56) and Matt Fryer (30) put on 80 runs for the second wicket.

Wincanton didn't have it so easily as the score suggests as Andy Milton and Sandy Rawle bowled 30 overs between them for only 56 runs and it wasn't until the 44th over that Wincanton reached their target to give themselves a good chance of staying up.

Watchet will now have to wait and see if Wedmore lose their final game next Saturday to see if they are champions or runners-up, but this has still been a successful and enjoyable season for them.

Watchet: 126 (A Woodward 57, S Vincent 4-32).

Wincanton: 128-5 (P Anyan 56, M Fryer 30, S Rawle 2-20).

Points: Watchet 6 Wincanton 25.
