QUANTOCKS write Harry Bucknall’s debut novel – Spark, a fast-paced action thriller – has just been published.
Harry has lived on the Quantocks his entire life and, although now working mostly in the Middle East, his family still lives here and he is a regular visitor to West Somerset. There is a reference to the hill in the book.
“Ever since reading Ian Fleming’s Dr No as a teenager, I have been a huge fan of spy thrillers and have wanted to write one for some time,” said Harry.
“At the beginning of my career, I spent ten years working for GCHQ so I have some good insight which lends authenticity.
“There is a lot of great spy fiction around at the moment and some of it is quite dark with brooding antiheroes. This definitely reflects the time we live in, but I wanted to go back to the escapism and fun of Fleming while also setting the story in a modern context with current events and themes.
“I also wanted to create a truly Bond-style villain!”
