POLICE are warning West Somerset men not to be duped by a bogus lonely heart who has already conned one person out of several thousand pounds.

A person claiming to be a woman called Jayne Fitzpatrick made email contact with a man through a legitimate dating site back in the summer.

The fraudster claimed to be living abroad and took advantage of the person's vulnerability to scam them out of a large sum of money.

But it seems the scam has resurfaced and Williton police officer John Hill has warned that any correspondence would eventually culminate with a request to send money to 'Jayne'.

PC Hill said: "Any emails like this, and especially from anyone claiming to be Jayne Fitzpatrick, should be deleted or discarded as spam.

"We had a serious case reported to us in the summer regarding this name, in which several thousand pounds were lost.

"I don't want anyone else to be a victim of this heartless crime."
