A LOCAL referendum will be held to give people the chance to vote on a key document which will shape future planning decisions in the Lynton and Lynmouth areas.

The Lyn Plan, which has been prepared by the Lynton and Lynmouth Town Council through a community-led process, will be the subject of a local referendum on Thursday, November 21.

Arrangements are now being made by North Devon Council for the referendum and polling cards are expected to be sent out from mid October.

Andrea Davis, chairman of the Lynton and Lynmouth Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group said: "I am delighted for the community that the plan has made another important step in the process and I do urge everyone who is eligible to take the opportunity to have their say at referendum.

"If the vote is positive then the neighbourhood plan will be the key policy document that has to be met when planning decisions are made in the Lynton and Lynmouth area.

"This is a very strong tool which shows that local communities can work to influence the planning outcomes for their areas."
