SIR — I am sure Alan Bond means well, but it would be wrong if his letter (Free Press August 8) were to perpetuate the commonly-held misconception about cycle lanes. They are not compulsory and Rules for Cyclists No 63 (http://www.gov.uk">www.gov.uk) clearly states: "Use of cycle lanes is not compulsory and will depend on your experience and skills, but they can make your journey safer."
