A couple who found themselves cut off by the tide near Kilve sparked an early-hours operation by the RNLI yesterday (Thursday).

Volunteer crews from Minehead and Burnham were alerted after the couple became trapped and called coastguards for help.

Minehead’s two lifeboats were on scene shortly after 2am.

The station’s D-class lifeboat was taken into the beach through a heavy swell and the couple were taken off andtransferred to the faster Atlantic 85 boat then rapidly landed at Watchet marina.

Neither was injured.
