WATCHET Town Council has been announced runner-up as Star Council of the Year at a national award ceremony.
Cllr John Irven, chairman of the council and Mayor of Watchet, accepted a plaque and certificate on the council’s behalf at the National Association of Local Council awards event held in Milton Keynes.
The association represents 10,000 community, neighbourhood, parish and town councils in England, and finalists were selected from over 120 submissions, with the final winner chosen by public vote.
The award winner was Northwich Town Council, which has a population of 20,000, with Watchet Town Council, which has a population of 3,785, runner-up.
“We were very proud to be recognised by our peers and our local public for the quality and effectiveness of the work we do,” said Cllr Irven.
“This wonderful award recognises the hard work and commitment of our councillors and staff, and I would like to thank all the people who supported us by voting.”
