A medieval pageant and fayre could go ahead in Yeovil on Saturday, June 1st if funding is found as part of the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Town centre manager Nina Higgins has been approached by local businesses, and hopes that Lottery money and contributions from local organisations and businesses willbring the necessary £5,000 to stage the event.
Her first attempt was only half a success, though, as the town council declined to come up with any cash but gave conditional approval for St John's Churchyard to be used for the event.
A report by town clerk Alan Tawse explained: "She has spoken to the rector of St John's Church, who is happy with the idea. He has added that there is a wedding at midday but thinks that will not be a problem and could add to the atmosphere.

Councillor Ian Martin was first to speak, saying he felt the council has done enough by organising and funding Music in the Park.
He did not wish to see people dressed like the tin man from Oz in the wedding procession.
Councillor Julian Freke expressed concern about the timing, believing organisers would struggle to arrange first aiders, stewards etc. in such a short time - but he wished them" the best of luck".
It was decided not to make a financial contribution, but allow the use of the site providing the couple getting married are happy with it.
