SOMERSET West and Taunton Council has closed its offices following the latest Government advice to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Many of the council’s services can be accessed online at www.somersetwestandtaunton.gov.uk.

Those who need to see someone face to face should call customer services on 0300 304 8000 between 8am and 6pm to make an appointment.

Anyone with a homeless emergency should call the free phone number 0808 164 5186.

A SWAT statement said: “Customers can help us through this unprecedented time by using our online services and not communicating via paper post as far as possible.

“This is particularly important for the planning service where we would encourage you to use the Planning Portal to submit applications or email [email protected] for advice.”

Leader of the council, Cllr Federica Smith-Roberts said: “The health and safety of our staff and our residents is our top priority.

“We are following advice from Public Health England daily and understand that this is a worrying time but be reassured that we will communicate with you effectively and maintain core services.”
