QUANTOCK Food Bank was this week presented with a cheque for £1,000 from sales of the Watchet Conservation Society’s 2021 ‘Sea, Sunrise and Sunsets’ calendar in the hope it will help to make a difference to local families over the Christmas period.
Society chairman Bob Cramp said: “Having in previous years produced calendars for society funds, we felt it important that this year our efforts should go towards this very worthwhile organisation.
“It was decided that the WCS should help finance the production costs from its funds, in order that the calendar was available for only a £5 donation.
“The Quantock Food Bank is needed more than ever this year and the society was delighted that the target was met and will hopefully make a difference to many families.”
From an original idea to capitalise on the sunrise and sunsets pictures shown on social media during this summer, the production, distribution and sale of 300 copies was achieved in just two months.
The society said that the calendar was only possible thanks to generosity of Watchet photographers Johnny Abbot-Garner, Bob Cramp, Liz Elmont, Peter Mather, Paul Scullion, Terry Walker, Gillian Wells and Paul Wells.
A spokesman said: “This has been a real community effort and would not have been possible without our local shopkeepers – Alberts ‘Ardware, The Veggie Patch, Watchet, Williton and Alcombe post offices and the Spar in Liddymore Road. To them all we owe our heartfelt thanks. The WCS wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and especially to all of you who bought a calendar… thank you all so very much!”
