Regarding the letter from West Somerset Watchdogs alerting everyone to the interest shown by speculative developers in land abutting Combeland Road, Manor Road and Exmoor National Park (Free Press January 19), I contacted one of the landowners to find out exactly how much land was involved.

It appears that we are talking about an area sufficient for the building of properties numbering in the hundreds.

The property owners of Combeland, Barton, Edgemoor and Manor Roads should be very concerned that:

a) The countryside views that they currently enjoy will disappear.

b) The already congested roads around this area will become almost inaccessible as access to such a development could only be from either Combeland Road, Manor Road or Ellicombe Lane.

As a resident of this area, I have witnessed the problems that the emergency services can have in accessing these narrow streets, and additional properties can only exacerbate the problem.
