The Yeovil and Area Community Development Trust was officially set up on Wednesday.
A community development trust is an organisation working for the sustainable regeneration of specific areas through a mixture of economic, environmental, social and cultural initiatives.
One aim of the newly formed trust in Yeovil is to "identify and respond to the changing needs of the communities of Yeovil and surrounding areas".
The Yeovil trust is the brainchild of the Yeovil Stepping Towards SRB Enterprise, which organised a conference to get the project going in April last year. It has been revealed that the trust will seek charity status in the near future.
Members of the public, leaders of local organisation as well as members of local authorities will serve on the trust's management committee.
District councillors, for example, were informed about progress at a recent meeting of the Area South Committee and decided to appoint Laney Nile as the council's representative.
