TWO informal drop-in days, on May 8 and July 5, are being held for potential volunteers at Coleridge Cottage, in Nether Stowey.

Romantic poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge spent three years living in the cottage with his wife, Sara, writing his most famous poetry in the village.

His one-time home gives visitors the opportunity to get hands-on with the Georgian world, with costumes to try on, quills and ink to write with, and a working 18th century well.

The cottage is cared for by a team of volunteers who are looking for more people to join them.

There are opportunities to help out in the small but busy tearoom, as a room guide chatting to visitors from all over the world, or in the shop which sells Coleridge-related souvenirs and gifts.

Volunteers who just want to dip in and out have the chance to tell stories on a tour or school visit.

New volunteers do not have to be a Coleridge expert – they learn as they go and are given all the training they need. Opportunities are available throughout the week.

The drop-in days are on Tuesday May 8 and Thursday July 5 a from 5pm to 7pm, when current volunteers will be on hand to explain how to get involved.
