WEST Somerset Council has reached a major milestone – more than £3 million of funding has been awarded to projects in the district by the Hinkley Point C Community Impact Mitigation (CIM) Fund.

And, when match funding for the projects is factored in, the total coming in to the district more than doubles to £7.4m.

The CIM fund was one of the measures secured by West Somerset Council to mitigate the impact of the Hinkley C site works when West Somerset Council gave planning consent in January 2012.

Grants have been awarded to grass roots community projects looking to provide new services, facilities and activities for local people and to support economic growth in the area since the fund was launched in 2014.

Projects funded by the CIM Fund to date range from employment hubs to goal posts, village hall improvements to sports and heritage projects, and many more are in the pipeline. The full list to date, and in-depth report, in the Free Press.
