FUNDRAISING for a project to make St George's Church in Dunster more accessible and welcoming will get a kickstart with a 'Cash in the Attic' event later this month.
Church leaders want to install toilets, a servery, welcome area, new lighting system and easier access in the centuries old building.
The cost of the overall project is likely to be around £140,000 but the work will be carried out in phases, with the £83,000 toilets the first to be tackled.
More than £600 has been raised so far through an honesty stall of books and bric a brac but organisers hope the Cash in the Attic on September 29 will bring in substantial funds.

MBE for long serving YMCA Dulverton Group chief executive Martin HodgsonChurchwarden Janet Capel said people were being asked to raid their attics and cupboards for anything no longer needed but in good condition.
The event will also include a cake stall, raffle, children's activities and trips to the bell chamber.
Mrs Capel said initial approval for the new developments at the church had been given by the Bath and Wells Diocese and final plans were now awaited from the architect.
Grants would be applied for but fundraising would be needed for the project to be completed.
"Our church is used for many community activities - at the last count it was 28," she said.
"The church is open during the day and we get many visiting tourists, including school children, and we also have a good congregation.
"With choir rehearsals, concerts and other activities it is essential that we have facilities for everyone to use."
Mrs Capel said that at the moment the church had to rely on Mother's Union members to make coffee following family services.
"But they have to do it under very difficult circumstances and we are very grateful to them.
"We just want to make the church accessible and welcoming to everyone."
The Cash in the Attic event will take place in the church from 10.30am to 3.30pm.
Anyone willing to donate unwanted treasures can leave them by the vestry door the day before or on the day of the sale.
