ALCOMBE resident Chrissie Glover was literally hit for six when she went along to watch some of Somerset's top cricketers play at Minehead Cricket Club last Friday.
She was sitting on the sidelines watching play unfold when she found herself on the receiving end of a six hit by Somerset county player Peter Trego.
The ball hit her on the shin, leaving her with a huge bruise and a more lasting reminder of the match - a signed Somerset County Cricket Club shirt from Peter.
"It did hurt somewhat and I couldn't quite say what I was thinking!" said Chrissie.
"Peter Trego was really nice about and came over and apologised.
"He then came over with a signed shirt which was lovely."
As if taking a battering from the Somerset and England Lions player wasn't bad enough, the offending ball was bowled by Minehead player Steve Hayes - the son of Chrissie's partner Mike!
"Steve certainly whizzed it over and was very chuffed that he'd bowled to him," she said.
In all, eight county side players joined local cricketers for a Last Man Standing competition to mark the opening of Minehead's new pavilion and as part of county player Arul Suppiah's benefit year.
A report on the event appears on the back page.
