SIR — We have lived on Bircham Road for nearly 30 years. In that time traffic everywhere has increased in volume.
As this is a main road, this brings another problem - speeding.
Over the past few years I have had contact with Somerset County Council, the police and Minehead Town Council and have been assured that something will be done to address the problem.
My main concern is for the children who need to cross the road in the morning and at the end of the school day.

Repairs to A396 Cutcombe Hill moved to nighttime work to avoid Snowdrop Valley clashOn a recent holiday to Dartmoor I was very aware of the 40mph signs painted on the roads across the moor drawing the attention of drivers to the need to protect the safety of ponies and sheep.
How tragic it would be if, for a lack of funding from the authorities responsible for taking measures to protect us, our children’s lives were put at risk.
Our children need at least the same concern for their safety as that shown to the wildlife of Dartmoor.
Max Saunders,
Alcombe.
