AGE UK Somerset is appealing for wool to help knitters over the age of 60 beat boredom during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Balls for Boredom project has also helped good causes, says Kate Barrington, from the charity.
“We hoped that the project would help in a small way to prevent boredom during lockdown, especially as older people without access to the internet were not able to get wool,” Kate said.
“But as well as bringing a little enjoyment, the work of these kind knitters has benefited more than a dozen charities.”
Items knitted with the wool include soft toys and teddies for playgroups, handwarmers for the homeless, items for care homes and blankets for dementia patients.
Anyone who has wool to spare or who would like to make a small donation to the project can contact [email protected] or call 01823 345627 and leave a message.
Knitters in need can request a Balls for Boredom pack – two balls of wool and information about the Age UK Somerset’ Big Knit fundraising campaign – by phone – 01823 345610 – or via the charity’s website, www.ageuksomersetcoronavirus.org.uk, search for Balls for Boredom.
