WHEN Carol Parsons was asked to help with the washing up at Williton's Croft House she had no idea she was forging a connection with the residential home that would last for the following 34 years. Carol had only gone to pick up her mother - who worked at the home - when she lent a hand in the kitchen in 1973. But this week she retired as manager of the entire operation, having worked her way up from kitchen domestic to the top job, which she took over in 2003. Deputy manager Michelle Tickner said: "I think Carol has taken on virtually every role here over the years, bar the handyman's job. "Everyone is going to miss her - she has been so dedicated, caring and committed, not only to the residents but to the staff as well. "Carol is someone who always has time for everyone." More than 100 people, including residents, staff past and present and residents' families, attended a special party to mark Carol's retirement on Wednesday. Former Croft House manager Brenda Clare, now area manager for Somerset Care, which owns the home, made a cake and tributes were flowing. Among the gifts Carol received were a painting by local artist Anne Cotterill, garden vouchers, a bird bath and a photo montage capturing memories of her working life at Croft House. New manager Diane Allen will take up her post in June. Photo: Steve Guscott
