Creative writers in school years five to 13 have three weeks in which to enter the Somerset Anne Frank Youth Awards.

Each year, the organisers choose a quote from Anne Frank’s diary and challenge entrants to write a piece based on it. This can be poetry, prose, a diary entry or a short story of up to 500 words.

The quote this year is: ‘I keep my ideals because, in spite of everything, I believe that people are really good at heart.’

All shortlisted entries will receive a copy of The Dairy of Anne Frank and a certificate of recognition.

Their work will then be adjudicated by Somerset-based author Andrew Powell-Thomas who writes children’s fiction, military history and local heritage books.

Book token worth £25 to £75 will be given to the top three entrants.

The closing date for entries is December 10 and those who are successful will receive an email with information about where the award ceremony will take place.
