MINEHEAD Old Hospital community centre is seeking a renewal of planning permission for a temporary café, which expired a year ago, although the business is not currently open.

The former home of the Kidzz Café and Buzzinbees Soft Play and Honeypot Café, was granted temporary planning permission for three years in October 2017.

Now the building’s owners have applied for further temporary planning permission for a café/restaurant although the current premises will eventually be demolished and the café moved to another part of the building.

The application to Somerset West and Taunton Council’s planning committee says the venue currently has no employees but consent is being sought to continue the use of the existing café.

The applicants state: “The café would operate as the prior permission laid out ‘with no detrimental effect on the Grade II building’.”

The application added: “The works to the remainder of the building has slowed considerably due to the pandemic and therefore the permanent location for the community café/restaurant has not yet been established.

“No changes are proposed to the building itself.”

The district council’s planning committee will make a decision on the application in due course.
