WOES will continue into November for Butlin’s storm-damaged Minehead holiday resort as the company was forced to tell more guests their breaks were being cancelled.

The centre closed for four days after the September 17 rainstorm which flooded accommodation on the site and caused chaos right across the district.

Butlin’s then announced that although it had reopened there would be some disruption through to November 2 and it was contacting affected holidaymakers to tell them their bookings were being cancelled.

Now, the company has said holidays will be affected right through the October schools half-term week and it was again cancelling some bookings for the breaks.

Butlin’s said it was an ‘unfortunate’ situation but it had found storm damage to the Minehead resort was ‘more extensive than first thought’.

A spokesperson said after exceptional rainfall had flooded the site in mid-September, the resort had reopened within the week with the full Butlin’s experience and started to welcome back guests.

However, the spokesperson said: “Following the closure of a small number of our accommodation, our team have been working hard to dry, fix, and replace the affected units.

“We have had further assessments made on the impacted units and unfortunately the damage is more extensive than first thought and we will have to announce further cancellations for our October half-term breaks.”

The spokesperson said it was not a decision taken lightly and Butlin’s was ‘very sorry’ and where possible it would try to move guests to accommodate as many as possible.

Lead guests for breaks starting on October 23, 27, and 30 were being contacted via email and SMS and they should check their ‘junk mail’ folders and let Butlin’s know if any contact details had changed.

Anybody who had not already heard from Butlin’s could assume their holidays were going ahead as planned.

The spokesperson said: “There are no further cancellations planned for our family breaks.

“It may be we do still need to contact a small number to move to another unit of accommodation from originally booked.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our guests who have been impacted by the recent cancellations for your patience and understanding.”

Any guests who were not happy with their new accommodation still had the right to request a refund or move their break.
