Festive events lined up for golden anniversary year on West Somerset RailwayA spokesman said the scheme would involve a new strategic engineering centre “together with the opportunity to sustain Williton as a prime example of a Brunel country branch line passing station”.
A project board of WSR partner organisations will take the development forward and is currently finalising a planning brief for the site before making a Heritage Lottery Fund bid for a range of options for the station’s goods shed.
The spokesman added: “There will be a process of informal discussion across the railway to get some initial feedback on emerging ideas for Brunel at Williton.
“This will be followed by a more formal programme of consultation both within and outside the railway.”
Members of the new project group are WSR, West Somerset Council, the Diesel and Electric Preservation Group, WSR Association, West Somerset Steam Railway Trust, Williton station staff and the 5542 group.
