MINEHEAD and West Somerset town and district councillors have been studying reports from an unusual quarter – Minehead Brownies presented them with a survey.
The girls undertook it “because we think that, if adults see what we have found out, they could help to make Minehead an even lovelier place to live in than it is now”.
And the Brownie pack, who spent four weeks surveying the town and writing up what they liked or were unhappy about, are not just resting on their laurels.
Once they get the right permissions, they are all set to take action themselves.
The survey project all started when the Brownies decided to create a ‘We Love Minehead’ badge, and met with Mayor Jean Parbrook and Cllr Christine Lawrence to find out about their work and ask what could be done to improve things in the town.
The 30-plus girls then worked in small groups all over Minehead, taking photographs and making notes about the town.
Last week they sent the results of their survey to both Minehead Town Council and West Somerset Council.
Their report commented positively on Minehead seafront, West Somerset Railway and Minehead station, The Avenue and Blenheim Gardens, and the councils and employees who work to improve the town.
It also expressed their regret that some people did not look after Minehead properly, that the council does not have all the money and resources it needs, and that some people who are addicts, dispose of bottles, needles and cigarette stubs in a way that can harm the health of others, particularly children.
