SIR — Ah! Bonfires! When best to fire it up?

Late Sunday afternoons, with everyone enjoying their garden, and perhaps some items of washing having a final dry on the line; windows, of course, wide open.

Where's my husband? Oh! Great heavens, there he is, fighting his way down the garden path in the fog. Smoke from two bonfires in one garden billowing over the fence.

No G and T on the terrace again for us and our friends!

In our neighbourhood, this is a regular occurrence (possibly not the G and T, I hasten to add!)

Everyone knows bonfires are carcinogenic and damaging to the environment.

We have a super recycling centre with very helpful staff, less than ten minutes in the car from this area of Minehead.

How to educate those who appear to have no idea of this or are too lazy and insensitive to care?

Ros Robinson,

Bratton Lane,

Minehead.
