NEW altar rails for St Peter’s Church on the Quay in Minehead have been designed, made and installed by award-winning West Country Blacksmiths of Allerford.

They are to replace wooden versions dating back to when the building became a seamen’s chapel over a century ago.

“Everything was made at Allerford,” said West Country Blacksmiths’ Kieren Roberts. “We are really proud of this project.

“The metalwork was fully hand forged and finished by forging, texturing and polishing the steel and treating the polished metalwork with an antiquing acid.

“The top rail is made from a dark hardwood which has been wax finished.

“We feel really privileged to have been given the opportunity to make this challenging decorative piece which will remain in the church for hundreds of years.”
