We are approaching November 5 so I would like to remind your readers that it’s incredibly important to be aware that hedgehogs and amphibians could be in the base of any piles of wood and rubbish waiting to be burned.

A really good bonfire can be made starting small and gradually adding the rest of the wood etc.

So many hedgehogs, toads and frogs, plus other garden creatures, are killed by setting fire to heaps of wood and rubbish that have only been left a few days.

It is now considered more favourable, fun and environmentally sound to attend a communal firework night as bonfires can be disturbing to roosting birds, pets, farm animals and the elderly.

Well done Sainsbury’s for not selling fireworks for this very reason.

Maybe back garden fireworks will be a thing of the past very soon.
