THE Minehead branch of Barclays Bank will close its doors on Friday, June 14, after the bank revealed that only 235 customers now use it exclusively.

Minehead will still have branches of HSBC, TSB and NatWest, but the nearest Barclays branches will be in Taunton, Bridgwater and Tiverton.

Mark Hatcliffe, Barclays community banking director for Bristol, Somerset and Wiltshire, said: “Minehead branch customer usage has continued to decline and 74 per cent of customers are using other ways to do their banking, such as online or by telephone.

“We do not take the decision to close any branch lightly and we will be proactively engaging with local businesses and the wider community to discuss alternative ways customers can carry out their banking locally.”

He added: “We hope that the availability of alternative ways of banking and access to services at the Post Office, including The Avenue, Alcombe and Dunster, along with our range of digital channels, will help ease the transition for our customers.”
