POLICE are investigating a graffiti attack with a difference on Watchet's Esplanade. The outline of a proposed bandstand, showing its scale, appeared on the ground of the designated conservation area shortly after a planning application for the structure was submitted earlier this year. The proposal has since been scaled down to a size which no longer requires planning approval. But West Somerset Council, which owns the land, confirmed yesterday (Thursday) that a police investigation was underway to find the graffiti culprit. Spokesman Stacey Beaumont said: "The police were informed that council-owned land had suffered criminal damage and they are carrying out investigations." She said the targeted area had since been sandblasted and the surface was due to be replaced as part of an overall enhancement of the Esplanade.
