SIR — After reading the report regarding the response from traders in Dunster to the Dunster Castle café plan I find it incredible that they seem to think the castle is the only reason that people visit the village.

What about the yarn market, the dovecote, the mill, the packhorse bridge, the deer park, Bats Castle and the village as a whole with its cobbled high street?

The majority of National Trust properties have now incoporated a café/restaurant for their visitors.

The report stated that "there are already 14 places to eat in Dunster".

Surely this is the issue, why have so many premises been granted permission to serve food in a small village?

It seems to be a sign of the times, look at the main street in Minehead, but in the present climate it is now backfiring on those who saw others making a decent living and decided to jump on the bandwagon.
