SIR — I read with some interest SJ Mann's letter about the possibility of a train link between Taunton and Minehead (Free Press April 17). Perhaps the model used by the St Erth to St Ives railway could be borne in mind. This is a private railway linking the mainline rail station (St Erth) to St Ives. Funding by various local initiatives for sure, but I get the impression that there isn't any real will in Minehead to explore this, despite the obvious benefits to the town and road safety. Why? Are there dark forces at play that don't want the area to develop? Minehead without development could end up like Seaton - a lovely place, but sidelined by other resorts in the area.
